My work is a reflection of the nuances of human experience that transform us. Expressing this using the medium of ceramic sculpture, I hope to create objects of beauty. I’m visually and conceptually fascinated by antithesis, exploring themes such as femininity, aging, attraction and connection. I aim to evoke the internal emotions we navigate: the tensions between solitude and coalescence, strength and fragility, defining experiences and simple pleasures. Drawing visual inspiration from organic forms such as the body, the fluidity of water or the movements of the solar system, I juxtapose these with geometric shapes. Smooth curves may intertwine with sharp edges and clean lines, suggesting the constant flux between stability and change, while exaggerated proportions create harmony and balance.

As a self-taught artist, I started creating with clay in 2017 in retaliation against working with the digital screen through my graphic design work. I wanted to express my creativity using this tactile, natural and ancient material. I have since found that aspects of my design background have influenced my work. My understanding of design theory helps me to visually arrange forms, colours and space to aesthetically communicate my message and at times, solve a problem. My journey with clay began by creating functional pieces. While my work has developed to focus on conceptual ideas, I sometimes return to creating objects that communicate these while having a use. I believe that clay is the perfect medium for me to express the metamorphism of human experience with its tangible, mouldable and volatile qualities. Just as clay is transformed by my hands, the sensitivities of the environment and the heat of the kiln, our lives are shaped by our choices, the social and physical factors around us and unpredictable forces beyond our control. Ultimately, my work is an attempt to create pieces that represent the beauty of the shapes of our lives.
